Mary Kolesova-Hudzilina, a lawyer and specialist in copyright law, will be an expert and the main speaker of this discussion. She will touch upon the copyright situation in Belarus in general and will also analyze the individual cases filmmakers face. How do I legally arrange a movie screening for friends in a cafe? Can piracy be for a good cause? What challenges do filmmakers encounter when using archival or stock footage? How does copyright work toward the artificial intelligence? Mary will answer these and other questions during the discussion, which will also be attended by directors and videomakers Artsiom Lobach, Nikita Lavretski, Carolina Poliakowa and the project Kinakipa. The conversation will be moderated by Volia Chajkouskaya, the director of Northern Lights.

Mary Kolesova-Hudzilina, a Belarusian lawyer and specialist in copyright law and president of the Belarusian Association of Human Rights Lawyers, teaches a course on copyright law at Harvard University.

Volia Chajkouskaya

Volia Chajkouskaya is a Belarus-born producer and director based in Estonia. She works for Allfilm Production Company. Volia obtained a Masters degree in directing and producing documentary films at the Baltic Film and Media School (Tallinn, Estonia). She is the founder of the Northern Lights Film Festival and the online cinema VODBLISK. Volia Chajkouskaya is also the co-founder of the Belarusian Independent Film Academy.
