Description
Renowned Finnish architect and author of the most soulful Modernist buildings and refined armchairs, Alvar Aalto was undoubtedly a remarkable individual. The master's personality and his family history have been narrated in the documental biopic directed by Virpi Suutari. In a dialogue with architect Dmitrii Zadorin she will share her key to combining the architecture with the personal in her film, as well as search for the answer to the question if the classic can be spoken of unvarnished.

Virpi Suutari lives and works in Helsinki as a filmmaker and producer. She is a member of the European Film Academy, professor of art (2012-2016), honorary doctor of arts, University of Lapland. Virpi Suutari is an award winning filmmaker known for her personal cinematic style and emotional narratives. Her films have been shown all over the world. The The Idle Ones (2002) was nominated for the Best European Documentary (EFA) and she has won several awards as the Best Nordic Documentary. Virpi has received the national Academy film award, the Jussi Award three times and her latest film Aalto got three nominations in 2021.

Dimitrij Zadorin is an architect and architectural historian. Since 2013 he has written and lectured on Soviet architecture, mass housing and Belarusian architecture in particular. He is a co-author of the book Towards a Typology of Soviet Mass Housing (2015) and the author of Architectural Guide Minsk (2018).
