Description

Robin Petre's "From the Wild Sea" is a documentary about nature as touching as a human drama can be. How does he make us so ready to relate and sympathize with animals, be they swans or fur seals? Robin Petre will talk about the magic of her film with the Hollywood Reporter's film reviewer Deborah Young, exclusively for the Northern Lights Film Festival.

Robin Petré. Film director, the author of "From the Wild sea" (Denmark)

Film Director Robin Petré was born and raised in Mols, Denmark. Her work often revolves around human-animal relations and our coexistence with nature. Her films have screened at numerous festivals around the world, and her creative documentary short film PULSE (2016) won the Silver Dove at DOK Leipzig among other awards. Her feature-length debut, FROM THE WILD SEA (2021), premiered at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival with a nomination for the Berlinale Documentary Award. Robin holds an MA in Documentary Film Directing from Doc Nomads (2015).

Deborah Young. American writer, film critic, International Film Editor of The Hollywood Reporter (Italy/USA)

Deborah Young - American writer and film critic was born in St. Louis. She graduated from Wellesley College and received an M.A. in Cinema Studies from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. A doctorate on Italian cinema brought her to Italy, where she has worked as a journalist, film critic and the Rome Bureau Chief of Variety, covering Italy, Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. In 2008, she left the paper to assume the role of International Film Editor for The Hollywood Reporter. She is a contributing editor to the American quarterly magazine Cineaste. Alongside her journalistic career, Deborah has directed the Taormina Film Fest from 2007 to 2011. She has been a consultant for the Tribeca Film Festival and the Venice Film Festival. Her first novel, the Caribbean adventure thriller Pirates in Black Tie, was published by Europe Books in 2021. She is based in Rome.
