Amidst the scenic Norwegian forests unfolds the story of a family that chose to live outside of civilization. British-born Nik and his four children struggle to preserve the ideals of harmony with nature once embodied by Maria — wife, mother, and the original architect of their “wild” existence. After her death, the family’s utopian idyll turns into a battle for survival and a series of painful choices, especially as technology increasingly invades the children’s lives. Director Silje Evensmo Jacobsen, who began filming as a chronicle of an alternative, free lifestyle, transforms the film into a moving exploration of grief, maturity, and the search for new forms of family. With gentle detachment, she observes how the survivors learn to live without Maria, rediscovering the fragile boundaries between nature and society, freedom and responsibility, solitude and love.
